I’m Dr. Serghei Burcovschii, or simply Dr. B. I’m a board-certified physician in sleep medicine and internal medicine, and I couldn’t be more excited to have you here. Medicine runs deep in my family—I'm a third-generation physician, inspired by my mother, a cardiologist in Moldova, and my grandmother, a pulmonologist in Russia. Growing up, I often heard the phrase “сон это лекарство” (“sleep is medicine”) spoken to me as a child. Little did I know that those words would become the foundation of my life’s work and mission.

My journey brought me to the United States in 1999 when I immigrated with my family from Moldova. I pursued a career in medicine, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from California State University Northridge, followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree from the American University of the Caribbean. My medical training led me to a rigorous three-year Internal Medicine Residency at Kern Medical in California, where I served as Chief Resident in my final year. Residency was a pivotal period in my life, as the grueling schedule of sleepless nights, 24-hour shifts, and rotating schedules impacted not only my physical health but also my mental well-being. This firsthand experience with the profound effects of poor sleep instilled in me a deep understanding of its critical importance. Motivated by these challenges, I chose to specialize further, completing a Sleep Medicine Fellowship at the University of Texas at Houston, located within the Texas Medical Center.  These experiences solidified my belief that sleep is not merely a luxury—it is a cornerstone of health and well-being.

In my practice, I’ve witnessed how commonly sleep disorders, like obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, and insufficient sleep syndrome, are overlooked. I’ve seen patients struggle with fatigue, poor concentration, and even chronic health conditions like hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, anxiety, and depression, all of which are often rooted in sleep disturbances. The transformation I saw in my patients’ lives when they addressed their sleep health reinforced my belief that sleep is a vital pillar of preventive medicine. Despite its profound importance, sleep often gets sidelined—even in primary care settings.

My mission is to empower both individuals and healthcare professionals to prioritize sleep health. I believe that better nights lead to better days, and my goal is to provide you with practical tools, insights, and evidence-based guidance to make sleep a top priority in your life.
